FutureA+
Hard to poke a hole in the Jets' weekend: A-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Jets spent pick 194 on Raylen Wilson, a name the board had a full 22 spots lower. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Klubnik. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In pick No. 12 they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick18
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate in slot 18 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick38
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
A quiet steal in the 38th pick: Caleb Banks for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick87
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley slipping to Round 3, Pick 23 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104
Rnd4
Cade Klubnik
Cade Klubnik at No. 104 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Boettcher. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick194
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
A real head-scratcher, Raylen Wilson in pick No. 194 is miles ahead of his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick212
Rnd6
Mark Fletcher Jr.
Mark Fletcher Jr. at Round 6, Pick 32 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick218
Rnd7
Tree Babalade
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tree Babalade in the 218th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Brandon Inniss
They went early on Brandon Inniss in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick254
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at slot 254 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick256
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh at pick 256 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
