FutureB
The Dolphins finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D+. The Dolphins lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.
They have staked the next five years on Ty Simpson, which is the only story that really matters here. With running back and linebacker unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
On value alone, McNeil-Warren makes the weekend a net positive. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In pick 25 they get a long-term answer under center, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
KC Concepcion
KC Concepcion is a better player than Round 2, Pick 11 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick87
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick No. 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick89
Rnd3
Will Lee III
A cornerback of that caliber at the 89th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick90
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
Taking Eli Stowers in No. 90 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick97
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
A want over a need in slot 97: Keionte Scott adds a cornerback while running back and linebacker keeps waiting.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jake Golday
They barely believed it either: Jake Golday still on the board at the 111th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
They robbed the room for Jaeden Roberts here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves at the 161st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick163
Rnd5
Nadame Tucker
No edge and no loss on Nadame Tucker in Round 5, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194
Rnd6
Brenen Thompson
Steal is underselling it; Brenen Thompson at pick 194 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
