FutureA
Larceny in No. 97 lands the Dolphins a D+, Slaughter and all. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Dolphins did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
On value alone, Slaughter makes the weekend a net positive. The Dolphins indulged a want in Scott while a need in linebacker stayed open.
That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenyon Sadiq at the 34th overall pick is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick43
Rnd2
Caleb Lomu
They read the board right and Caleb Lomu was the payoff at pick No. 43. The roster fit checks out.
Pick58
Rnd2
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Circle this one: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at slot 58 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick75
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in the 75th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick82
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Keionte Scott while clear needs at linebacker sat open.
Pick87
Rnd3
Gennings Dunker
Taking Gennings Dunker in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Somehow Antonio Williams was still sitting there in the 90th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at pick No. 97 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Nice patience on Nicholas Singleton, who had no business lasting to pick 104. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick111
Rnd4
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at Round 4, Pick 11 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Bishop Fitzgerald
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Bishop Fitzgerald at safety with linebacker open.
Pick149
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
Nothing to complain about; DeMonte Capehart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jalen Farmer
A quiet steal in No. 171: Jalen Farmer for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick181
Rnd6
Kevin Coleman Jr.
The board fumbled Kevin Coleman Jr. all the way to slot 181, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick234
Rnd7
Miller Moss
They let Miller Moss come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 18. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
