FutureA+
The Jaguars cashed the board's mistake on Mondon Jr.: D+. The Jaguars looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Elijhah Badger at pick 207 regardless, 96 picks early. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Mondon Jr.. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In pick 27 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
A tidy bit of business in slot 35, where Emeka Egbuka graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick36
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
They robbed the room for Walter Nolen here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Omarion Hampton
Somehow Omarion Hampton was still sitting there in the 70th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jihaad Campbell
You do not let a linebacker like Jihaad Campbell reach the 105th overall pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106
Rnd4
Harold Fannin Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Harold Fannin Jr. at pick No. 106 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick143
Rnd5
Sebastian Castro
The board fumbled Sebastian Castro all the way to the 143rd pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick158
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
A swing that ignored the value entirely, JJ Pegues well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick184
Rnd6
Jonah Monheim
They barely believed it either: Jonah Monheim still on the board at pick 184. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Nohl Williams
Value said wait; Nohl Williams in No. 196 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick207
Rnd6
Elijhah Badger
Elijhah Badger in slot 207 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick213
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223
Rnd7
James Burnip
James Burnip at Round 7, Pick 5 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick240
Rnd7
Logan Parr
Logan Parr in the 240th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
