The Jaguars answered their biggest question with Sanders. Grade: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tahj Brooks, the No. 127 name on the board, stolen at the Round 7 slot.
Shedeur Sanders gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Wester has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In pick 1 they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick5
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Taking Walter Nolen in No. 35 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker slid further than he should have, and slot 36 is lovely value for the linebacker. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick88
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at pick No. 88 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
Value with a capital V on Denzel Burke in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick125
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 125th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick143
Rnd5
Savion Williams
Steal is underselling it; Savion Williams at pick 143 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick184
Rnd6
LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester in the 184th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick196
Rnd6
Emery Jones Jr.
They will replay Emery Jones Jr. at Round 6, Pick 18 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 223 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
