Draft Grade — Jaguars

FutureA+
Grand theft in the 196th pick: the Jaguars steal McCord and grade out a A-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Jaguars watched Kyle McCord slide 71 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 20th pick they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Trey Amos
A reach on Trey Amos in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick51
Rnd2
Isaiah Bond
They took Isaiah Bond at par in pick No. 51, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
They paid sticker price for Tate Ratledge in the 70th overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick88
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Taking Alfred Collins in pick 88 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at slot 106 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
A tidy bit of business in No. 125, where Lathan Ransom graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick143
Rnd5
Jordan Phillips
Somehow Jordan Phillips was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 4, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
Terrance Ferguson
They will replay Terrance Ferguson at pick No. 150 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick174
Rnd5
Xavier Scott
A clean, defensible pick in pick 174 with a little surplus value in Xavier Scott. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick184
Rnd6
Connor Colby
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Connor Colby. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196
Rnd6
Kyle McCord
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Kyle McCord in the 196th pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick223
Rnd7
Bhayshul Tuten
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
