FutureF
The Colts jumped the board for Cook and paid for it: F. The Colts put a flag in the ground for Brady Cook, 98 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.
Borregales at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Watts pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with wide receiver still staring back at them.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Malaki Starks
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get an enforcer at safety. Need was not the driver here.
Pick22
Rnd1
Benjamin Morrison
Benjamin Morrison in No. 22 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick24
Rnd1
Xavier Watts
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Xavier Watts at safety with wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick55
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren slid further than he should have, and pick 55 is lovely value for the tight end. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick80
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to pick No. 80, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick115
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Sebastian Castro while clear needs at wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick150
Rnd5
Brady Cook
Value said wait; Brady Cook in the 150th pick says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick187
Rnd6
Cody Simon
Steal is underselling it; Cody Simon at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick218
Rnd7
Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales at No. 218 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick232
Rnd7
James Burnip
A top-tier specialist at a bargain, James Burnip in Round 7, Pick 16, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
