Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall

TradesA
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Chargers: B+. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Chargers took Collin Oliver at slot 209, roughly 86 spots before his name belonged.
Landing Gabriel that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In the 30th overall pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
A straight-up fair deal on Alfred Collins at pick 58, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick62
Rnd2
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick86
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Somehow Quinshon Judkins was still sitting there in the 86th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Fair-plus on Zy Alexander, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick158
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
Billy Bowman Jr. in pick No. 158 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick166
Rnd5
Kobe King
Taking Kobe King in the 166th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick169
Rnd5
Hollin Pierce
The board fumbled Hollin Pierce all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim is a better player than pick No. 181 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick199
Rnd6
Dillon Gabriel
A quarterback of that caliber at No. 199 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd6
Collin Oliver
A big swing on Collin Oliver at the 209th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick214
Rnd6
Simeon Barrow Jr.
No edge and no loss on Simeon Barrow Jr. in pick 214; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick256
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks at Round 7, Pick 40 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
