Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
D+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Seahawks bled value on every deal, hence the D+. The Seahawks looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Dylan Fairchild at Round 2, Pick 31 regardless, 41 picks early. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Seahawks indulged a want in Alexander while a need in edge rusher and interior defensive lineman stayed open. On value alone, Emmanwori makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Colston Loveland
In the 20th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30
Rnd1
Grey Zabel
In pick No. 30 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to No. 50, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at Round 2, Pick 30 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick63
Rnd2
Dylan Fairchild
A real head-scratcher, Dylan Fairchild in the 63rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick92
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Barrett Carter. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick109
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Zy Alexander adds a cornerback and leaves edge rusher and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Pick132
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
A reach on Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick137
Rnd4
Kurtis Rourke
They paid sticker price for Kurtis Rourke in Round 4, Pick 35, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
No edge and no loss on Chase Lundt in the 172nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick208
Rnd6
Tahj Brooks
A clean, defensible pick in pick 208 with a little surplus value in Tahj Brooks. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick223
Rnd7
Ricky White III
A straight-up fair deal on Ricky White III at No. 223, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick226
Rnd7
Bru McCoy
Value said wait; Bru McCoy in the 226th pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick234
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
No drama and no debate, Carson Vinson went about where he belonged in pick No. 234. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
