Draft Grade — Colts

FutureA+
The Colts let Smith fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. The Colts spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Brashard Smith, the No. 101 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 17. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Riley has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
The Thomas pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still on the board.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick44
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick51
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach pick No. 51 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick63
Rnd2
Darien Porter
They liked Darien Porter enough to skip the value, taking him in the 63rd pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick65
Rnd3
Ajani Cornelius
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ajani Cornelius this early at Round 3, Pick 1. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick68
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at slot 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick82
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Azareye'h Thomas at cornerback with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick83
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Andrew Mukuba while clear needs at wide receiver, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick86
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at pick 86 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick87
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
They robbed the room for TreVeyon Henderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick89
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in slot 89 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick102
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
They did well to land Mason Taylor in pick No. 102, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jake Majors
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in pick 114, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick118
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
The board fumbled Smael Mondon Jr. all the way to Round 4, Pick 17, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick150
Rnd5
Connor Colby
They reached into another round for Connor Colby, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
They will replay Brashard Smith at the 154th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at the 163rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick184
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at slot 184 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
