Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall

FutureC+
Conviction outran the board for the Dolphins, and it cost them: F. The Dolphins put a flag in the ground for Caden Curry, 43 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A F, plain and simple.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Spending an early pick on cornerback with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They banked enough surplus on Slaughter to cover a lot of smaller sins.
In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Zion Young
Zion Young at Round 1, Pick 18 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick43
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on D'Angelo Ponds. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick49
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at the 75th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 82 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Slaughter reach the 87th pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick90
Rnd3
Treydan Stukes
A surprising call. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent the 90th pick on Treydan Stukes, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick97
Rnd3
Keyron Crawford
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Keyron Crawford well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Bud Clark
They paid a round early for Bud Clark in pick 111, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick122
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A tidy little value on Bryce Lance in the 122nd overall pick, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Louis Moore
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Louis Moore while clear needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick137
Rnd4
Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens in slot 137 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick165
Rnd5
Keagen Trost
Keagen Trost slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick227
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in Round 7, Pick 11 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick244
Rnd7
De'Zhaun Stribling
A reach for De'Zhaun Stribling in Round 7, Pick 28; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
