FutureA-
The Jets let Anderson fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Somebody in the 192nd pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Jets sat still while Aaron Anderson, the No. 167 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Every board in the league had Foster lower, and that gap is the story. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In pick No. 7 they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick32
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick 32 they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35
Rnd2
Dani Dennis-Sutton
Good price on Dani Dennis-Sutton in slot 35, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Christen Miller
A tidy bit of business in the 38th overall pick, where Christen Miller graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick48
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Taking Kenyon Sadiq in No. 48 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
A conviction pick on Jaeden Roberts at the 72nd pick that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick103
Rnd4
Sam Leavitt
Steal is underselling it; Sam Leavitt at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick116
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at Round 4, Pick 16 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III in the 178th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick192
Rnd6
Aaron Anderson
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 192 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick205
Rnd6
Cam Calhoun
They took Cam Calhoun at par in the 205th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick207
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
They talked themselves into Bryce Foster at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Fernando Carmona
A real head-scratcher, Fernando Carmona in pick 239 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick254
Rnd7
Brandon Inniss
Nothing to complain about; Brandon Inniss went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jack Velling
Jack Velling at pick No. 255 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
