BLESSEDBYGOD22 DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
C+
ValueD
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Chargers, and a C+ to match. The Chargers spent real capital to be 89 picks early on Phillip Webb, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Landing Skattebo that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
If Ashton Gillotte and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Ashton Gillotte
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick55
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in pick 55 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick86
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
No edge and no loss on Gunnar Helm in the 86th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
They did well to land Jacob Parrish in pick No. 125, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick158
Rnd5
Cam Skattebo
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick181
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at slot 181 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick199
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
A tidy little value on Oronde Gadsden II in the 199th pick, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jeremy Crawshaw
They talked themselves into Jeremy Crawshaw at No. 209, and the board did not agree. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
They paid sticker price for Jordan Hancock in slot 214, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick256
Rnd7
Phillip Webb
Value said wait; Phillip Webb in the 256th overall pick says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
