FutureA-
The phones sank the Commanders this weekend: D. The tape said wait; the Commanders did not. Korey Foreman went at pick 240, a good 44 picks before the board was ready.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They banked enough surplus on Price to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick 18 they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick47
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Nice patience on Sonny Styles, who had no business lasting to pick No. 47. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick49
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
The board had Dillon Thieneman higher than Round 2, Pick 17, and the safety fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jadarian Price in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84
Rnd3
Jake Golday
A tidy little value on Jake Golday in No. 84, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick97
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They took Caden Curry at par in the 97th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick99
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at the 99th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick116
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeMonte Capehart in No. 116, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick129
Rnd4
Logan Jones
Logan Jones in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick156
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
They paid a round early for Oscar Delp in the 156th pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick185
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They liked Trey Zuhn III enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 185. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Robert Spears-Jennings
They paid up for Robert Spears-Jennings at Round 6, Pick 17 when waiting would have done the job. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick216
Rnd6
Hykeem Williams
No drama and no debate, Hykeem Williams went about where he belonged in pick 216. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Hall well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick240
Rnd7
Korey Foreman
They reached into another round for Korey Foreman, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
