Draft Grade — Packers

Chambliss should have been long gone. The Packers pounced, and earned a D. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Packers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Allen pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher.
The Chambliss pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They will need Alexander to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 30th overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
CJ Allen
They zigged when the board said zag, taking CJ Allen at linebacker with edge rusher open.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 62 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104
Rnd4
Julian Neal
Circle this one: Julian Neal at No. 104 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jack Endries
Jack Endries in slot 113 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick128
Rnd4
Chris Johnson
Value with a capital V on Chris Johnson in Round 4, Pick 28, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick154
Rnd5
Kage Casey
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kage Casey. It fills a real need, too.
Pick168
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Fair-plus on Max Iheanachor, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaden Greathouse in pick No. 170. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick208
Rnd6
Trinidad Chambliss
Steal is underselling it; Trinidad Chambliss at slot 208 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick212
Rnd6
Makhi Hughes
By-the-book stuff, Makhi Hughes at the 212th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick243
Rnd7
De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling at pick 243 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick250
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
A reach for Bear Alexander in the 250th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick255
Rnd7
Brandon Inniss
No edge and no loss on Brandon Inniss in Round 7, Pick 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
