Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
C+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesD+
FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Seahawks, and a C+ to match. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jason Marshall Jr. at the 175th overall pick, a reach of 33 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill hitter at safety, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jihaad Campbell in slot 50. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick52
Rnd2
Marcus Mbow
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 20 with a little surplus value in Marcus Mbow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick59
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Good price on Alfred Collins in pick 59, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick82
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They took Ozzy Trapilo at par in the 82nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick91
Rnd3
Tyler Shough
They paid a round early for Tyler Shough in pick No. 91, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at slot 137 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool at the 172nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jason Marshall Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jason Marshall Jr. this early at pick No. 175. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick223
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick234
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaac TeSlaa. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
