Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
C+
ValueC
NeedB-
TradesD+
FutureB-
A mixed bag for the Dolphins, and a C+ to match. The Mikail Kamara pick is the one that will follow the Dolphins into the fall. They took him 67 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane in pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick39
Rnd2
Zion Young
No drama and no debate, Zion Young went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 7. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick43
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in No. 43 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick70
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry in slot 70 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Mikail Kamara
A big swing on Mikail Kamara at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in pick No. 87 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick90
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
A surprising call. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent the 90th pick on Daylen Everette, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick111
Rnd4
Beau Stephens
Value said wait; Beau Stephens in the 111th overall pick says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick127
Rnd4
Louis Moore
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 27 on Louis Moore with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Pick133
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
By-the-book stuff, CJ Daniels at slot 133 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Keagen Trost
Keagen Trost at No. 149 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171
Rnd5
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
They went early on Kaleb Elarms-Orr in pick No. 171, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick227
Rnd7
Aiden Fisher
Aiden Fisher at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
