Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall

FutureB+
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D. The Raiders did not so much draft Eric Gentry as overpay for him, 101 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Neal steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick20
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. More want than need.
Pick36
Rnd2
Romello Height
They went early on Romello Height in pick No. 36, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick82
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
Somehow A.J. Haulcy was still sitting there in the 82nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick102
Rnd4
Julian Neal
Steal is underselling it; Julian Neal at No. 102 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at pick 117 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick145
Rnd5
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
They paid up for Jermaine Mathews Jr. at No. 174 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185
Rnd6
Quintrevion Wisner
Quintrevion Wisner at Round 6, Pick 4 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick244
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
They talked themselves into Eric Gentry at slot 244, and the board did not agree. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
