Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B+
ValueA NeedB+ TradesB FutureB-
The Chargers cashed the board's mistake on Sanders: B+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chargers watched T.J. Sanders slide 218 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Reaching for Wilson left real value on the table behind him. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55 Rnd2 Josaiah Stewart
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Josaiah Stewart. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick86 Rnd3 Colston Loveland
You do not let a tight end like Colston Loveland reach the 86th pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
A reach for Jared Wilson in slot 87; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick125 Rnd4 Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in pick 125 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick158 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
They will replay Cam Skattebo at pick No. 158 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick181 Rnd6 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at No. 181 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick199 Rnd6 Jahdae Barron
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jahdae Barron in the 199th overall pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick209 Rnd6 Sebastian Castro
Somehow Sebastian Castro was still sitting there in the 209th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick214 Rnd6 Wyatt Milum
They barely believed it either: Wyatt Milum still on the board at pick 214. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick256 Rnd7 T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders at slot 256 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
