McNeil-Warren should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B.

Somebody in pick No. 135 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 113 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
They let Carnell Tate come to them and pounced at the 21st pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick53 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in slot 53 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
Nice patience on Daylen Everette, who had no business lasting to pick 76. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick85 Rnd3 John Mateer
They read the board right and John Mateer was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 21. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick99 Rnd3 Xavier Chaplin
They paid sticker price for Xavier Chaplin in pick No. 99, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick121 Rnd4 Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott at No. 121 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick135 Rnd4 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick159 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at the 159th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick214 Rnd6 Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister is a better player than No. 214 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 34, where Le'Veon Moss graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick224 Rnd7 Drayk Bowen
They took Drayk Bowen at par in the 224th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick237 Rnd7 Josh Cuevas
No edge and no loss on Josh Cuevas in pick No. 237; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
