Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Chargers and Hampton: B. Call it larceny. Omarion Hampton sat on the board until the 55th overall pick, and the Chargers did not need to be asked twice. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in pick No. 22 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick55
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Burch. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips slipping to No. 125 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick158
Rnd5
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. is a better player than pick 158 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick181
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten at the 181st pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick199
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Nice patience on Dont'e Thornton Jr., who had no business lasting to the 199th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick209
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They read the board right and KeAndre Lambert-Smith was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 33. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick214
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw at the 214th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick256
Rnd7
Mac McWilliams
They did well to land Mac McWilliams in the 256th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
