Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
D
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB+
Larceny in the Round 3 slot lands the Dolphins a D, Stowers and all. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Dolphins, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. On value alone, Stowers makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Kayden McDonald
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Kayden McDonald in pick 40, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick43
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 43, where Brandon Cisse graded well above the range. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick62
Rnd2
Max Klare
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Klare at the 62nd overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick74
Rnd3
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor is a better player than the 74th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
They took Malachi Fields at par in No. 75, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at slot 86 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Keionte Scott while clear needs at edge rusher sat open.
Pick90
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
They robbed the room for Eli Stowers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Ja'Kobi Lane
They will replay Ja'Kobi Lane at No. 111 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Value with a capital V on Nicholas Singleton in slot 112, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaeden Roberts in the Round 4 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick149
Rnd5
Skyler Gill-Howard
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Skyler Gill-Howard in pick 149. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick150
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at Round 5, Pick 12 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey in pick No. 168 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
Nice patience on Bryce Boettcher, who had no business lasting to pick 177. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick202
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
Somehow DJ Campbell was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick227
Rnd7
Jadon Canady
The board had Jadon Canady higher than the 227th pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
