FutureA-
Lawson should have been long gone. The Dolphins pounced, and earned a D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Dolphins did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
With edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Lawson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In the 24th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
Brandon Cisse slipping to the 49th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick70
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A top-tier safety at a bargain, A.J. Haulcy in pick No. 70, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick82
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at No. 82 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick86
Rnd3
Max Klare
The board fumbled Max Klare all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
They will replay Lee Hunter at pick 87 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Taking Deontae Lawson in the 90th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick97
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
A surprising call. With edge rusher still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 33 on Malik Muhammad, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick107
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
The board had Nicholas Singleton higher than the 107th overall pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jude Bowry
Jude Bowry at pick 123 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick127
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in the Round 4 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133
Rnd4
Eli Raridon
They read the board right and Eli Raridon was the payoff at No. 133. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139
Rnd5
Logan Jones
They let Logan Jones come to them and pounced at slot 139. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick149
Rnd5
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
A slide stopped in pick No. 149, with Ar'maj Reed-Adams worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161
Rnd5
Albert Regis
No drama and no debate, Albert Regis went about where he belonged in pick 161. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick171
Rnd5
Terion Stewart
Terion Stewart at slot 171 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick194
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Value with a capital V on Taylen Green in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick202
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Nwankpa at pick No. 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
