The Eagles worked the phones like thieves and earned a B. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Eagles spent pick No. 231 on Brady Cook, a name most had 58 spots down the list.
Horton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
The Campbell pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and tight end still on the board. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A curious use of pick No. 41. Edge rusher and tight end needed the pick; a linebacker in Jihaad Campbell did not.
Pick96
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at the 96th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick134
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
They jumped the gun on Emery Jones Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick135
Rnd4
Tory Horton
Steal is underselling it; Tory Horton at the 135th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick150
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore in pick 150 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick155
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
A quiet steal in pick No. 155: Quincy Riley for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jason Marshall Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jason Marshall Jr. in the 161st overall pick, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick164
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
They reached a country mile for Jaylen Reed at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trevor Etienne in No. 165. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick168
Rnd5
Nick Nash
They read the board right and Nick Nash was the payoff at pick 168. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick224
Rnd7
Desmond Watson
A conviction pick on Desmond Watson at the 224th pick that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick231
Rnd7
Brady Cook
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brady Cook. It fills a real need, too.
Pick253
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa is a better player than slot 253 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
