Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Eagles checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with J. Michael Sturdivant in pick No. 180.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Ponds to cover a lot of smaller sins.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In the 23rd pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54 Rnd2 Germie Bernard
They took Germie Bernard at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick68 Rnd3 Isaiah World
No edge and no loss on Isaiah World in pick 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
The board had cheaper options than Monroe Freeling at Round 3, Pick 34, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick122 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
A tidy bit of business in the 122nd overall pick, where D'Angelo Ponds graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg is a better player than No. 138 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick152 Rnd5 Red Murdock
A wild overpay on Red Murdock in pick No. 152, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick180 Rnd5 J. Michael Sturdivant
They reached a country mile for J. Michael Sturdivant at slot 180, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick202 Rnd6 Princewill Umanmielen
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Princewill Umanmielen. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
