Dukez2020 DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Chargers: B-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Drew Kendall, 80 picks early at slot 214.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55
Rnd2
Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard at the 55th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick86
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in slot 86 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick125
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Terrance Ferguson at pick No. 125 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick158
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A tidy little value on Bhayshul Tuten in the 158th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Clay Webb
A reach on Clay Webb in No. 181; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick199
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
No drama and no debate, Caleb Ransaw went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 23. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jason Marshall Jr.
Fair-plus on Jason Marshall Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Drew Kendall
Drew Kendall at pick No. 214 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick256
Rnd7
Nick Martin
A big swing on Nick Martin at pick 256, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
