Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall

FutureB-
The Panthers won the night they stopped Starks from sliding. Grade: B+. The rest of the league will want that one back. Malaki Starks tumbling to the Panthers in Round 2, Pick 25 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Every board in the league had Broughton lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Panthers paired the rookies with proven help, Darnell Mooney leading the way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
A safety of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick74
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
No drama and no debate, Maxwell Hairston went about where he belonged in the 74th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
They read the board right and Mason Taylor was the payoff at No. 87. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick94
Rnd3
Savion Williams
Savion Williams in pick No. 94 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick114
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at slot 114 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick132
Rnd4
Kobe King
Kobe King in the 132nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick140
Rnd5
Cody Simon
The board had Cody Simon higher than pick 140, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick148
Rnd5
Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales at pick 148 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick163
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
They reached a country mile for Vernon Broughton at Round 5, Pick 25, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick175
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
Nothing to complain about; Kyle Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
