Larceny in the 153rd pick lands the Bengals a B, Belton and all. Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bengals sat still while Anthony Belton, the No. 112 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
James Pearce Jr. in Round 1, Pick 17 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick49
Rnd2
Shavon Revel Jr.
The board fumbled Shavon Revel Jr. all the way to the 49th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They did well to land Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips slid further than he should have, and slot 119 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
A slide stopped in No. 127, with Cam Skattebo worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick153
Rnd5
Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at pick No. 153 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
They read the board right and Jack Kiser was the payoff at pick 193. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195
Rnd6
CJ West
A tidy bit of business in the 195th pick, where CJ West graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick202
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 202 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
