Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
A
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Jaguars a A. The Jaguars did not so much draft Tyler Baron as overpay for him, 40 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Landing Wilson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In the end it comes back to Armand Membou, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Armand Membou
Armand Membou in slot 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick14
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In No. 14 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick17
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In pick No. 17 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A slide stopped in the 36th pick, with Nick Emmanwori worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick49
Rnd2
Grey Zabel
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Grey Zabel at the Round 2 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick74
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Tre Harris at pick 74 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Darien Porter
No edge and no loss on Darien Porter in slot 76; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick88
Rnd3
Tai Felton
The board had cheaper options than Tai Felton at pick No. 88, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick107
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick114
Rnd4
Chimere Dike
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 12: Chimere Dike for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron at the 117th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick119
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
They robbed the room for Zy Alexander here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at the 126th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jaydon Blue
A big swing on Jaydon Blue at No. 142, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick171
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 171, where Tommi Hill graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick182
Rnd6
Chase Lundt
Nice patience on Chase Lundt, who had no business lasting to the 182nd pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick189
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
The board had Ajani Cornelius higher than the Round 6 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 194th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick221
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
Value with a capital V on R.J. Mickens in Round 7, Pick 5, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
