Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Haulcy: B-.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: A.J. Haulcy, pick 85, roughly 31 picks past where he belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Owens II has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In No. 21 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick 53 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
Keionte Scott at Round 3, Pick 12 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick85 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
Somehow A.J. Haulcy was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Jake Golday at the 99th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick121 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
The board had Zachariah Branch higher than pick No. 121, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick135 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss in slot 135 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick159 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at the 159th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick213 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick214 Rnd6 Rueben Owens II
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Rueben Owens II well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224 Rnd7 Micah Morris
This one needs a full-page explanation: Micah Morris in Round 7, Pick 8, miles early. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
They paid up for Jordan Hall at the 237th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
