Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureA+
The Chiefs checked most of the boxes and earned a B. The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for Caden Curry, 39 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They banked enough surplus on Roush to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Chiefs clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick50
Rnd2
Gabe Jacas
They liked Gabe Jacas enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 50. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick74
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Circle this one: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick 74 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick80
Rnd3
Jake Golday
The board fumbled Jake Golday all the way to slot 80, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick82
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at the 82nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick88
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at No. 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick113
Rnd4
Sam Roush
Taking Sam Roush in pick 113 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
They did well to land Bryce Lance in No. 125, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Kilgore at the Round 4 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick133
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun is a better player than the 133rd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis in the 139th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
Good price on Jaeden Roberts in slot 146, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick161
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
By-the-book stuff, Aamil Wagner at Round 5, Pick 23 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick175
Rnd5
Kaleb Proctor
Nothing to complain about; Kaleb Proctor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick176
Rnd5
Taylen Green
A premium they did not need to pay, Taylen Green a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick178
Rnd5
VJ Payne
VJ Payne at No. 178 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick193
Rnd6
Josh Cameron
Josh Cameron at pick No. 193 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick206
Rnd6
Dallen Bentley
Dallen Bentley in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick209
Rnd6
Noah Whittington
This one needs a full-page explanation: Noah Whittington in the 209th pick, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick218
Rnd7
Zxavian Harris
They paid sticker price for Zxavian Harris in the 218th overall pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick242
Rnd7
Adam Randall
Adam Randall at slot 242 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
