Draft Grade — 49ers

Allen should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a D. Thirty-one other rooms let CJ Allen slide, and the 49ers were the ones holding the card at pick No. 92. Highway robbery. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Spending an early pick on cornerback with wide receiver, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick92
Rnd3
CJ Allen
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, CJ Allen in pick No. 92, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick93
Rnd3
Chris Johnson
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick127
Rnd4
Markel Bell
They barely believed it either: Markel Bell still on the board at No. 127. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Will Lee III
A curious use of the 133rd overall pick. Wide receiver, running back and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Will Lee III did not.
