Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureA-
The Commanders bled value on every deal, hence the D. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Commanders would have aced it. Korey Foreman at Round 7, Pick 24 is 44 spots clear of where he belonged. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In No. 18 they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at pick No. 47 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick49
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman slid further than he should have, and the 49th pick is lovely value for the safety. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Jake Golday
Fair-plus on Jake Golday, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They paid sticker price for Caden Curry in pick 97, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick99
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at slot 99 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick116
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They talked themselves into DeMonte Capehart at Round 4, Pick 16, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick129
Rnd4
Logan Jones
No drama and no debate, Logan Jones went about where he belonged in pick 129. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick156
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
They went early on Oscar Delp in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They paid a round early for Trey Zuhn III in the 185th pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick196
Rnd6
Robert Spears-Jennings
A reach on Robert Spears-Jennings in pick No. 196; the board had better options right there. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick216
Rnd6
Hykeem Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Hykeem Williams at No. 216, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at the 223rd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick240
Rnd7
Korey Foreman
A real head-scratcher, Korey Foreman in the 240th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
