Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for McNeil-Warren: B-.

Call it larceny. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren sat on the board until the Round 3 slot, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They are betting Sturdivant proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Francis Mauigoa
Francis Mauigoa in the 31st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick63 Rnd2 Eli Stowers
No edge and no loss on Eli Stowers in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick95 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in slot 95 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125 Rnd4 Malachi Lawrence
Malachi Lawrence in the 125th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131 Rnd4 Beau Stephens
Beau Stephens at Round 4, Pick 31 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick169 Rnd5 Le'Veon Moss
A reach for Le'Veon Moss in pick 169; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick189 Rnd6 Brenen Thompson
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 189 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick200 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at No. 200 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick207 Rnd6 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at pick 207 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick210 Rnd6 Kalil Alexander
They reached a country mile for Kalil Alexander at the 210th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick247 Rnd7 Ja'Keem Jackson
They paid up for Ja'Keem Jackson at No. 247 when waiting would have done the job. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
