FutureC+
The Lions lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Lions started one anyway for Zach Rice, 91 picks ahead of schedule.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Beck value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Jake Slaughter
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59
Rnd2
Gabe Jacas
Gabe Jacas in No. 59 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
The board had Malachi Fields higher than Round 3, Pick 27, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick100
Rnd3
Chandler Rivers
A tidy little value on Chandler Rivers in pick 100, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney in the 110th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127
Rnd4
Carson Beck
Somehow Carson Beck was still sitting there in the 127th pick, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149
Rnd5
Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at the 149th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick166
Rnd5
James Smith
They talked themselves into James Smith at slot 166, and the board did not agree. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick188
Rnd6
Trey Moore
Value said wait; Trey Moore in the 188th overall pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick205
Rnd6
Zach Rice
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Zach Rice. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jason Henderson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jason Henderson in Round 7, Pick 23, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick240
Rnd7
Jalen Catalon
They let Jalen Catalon come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255
Rnd7
CJ Daniels
A swing that ignored the value entirely, CJ Daniels well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
