Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Chiefs let Banks fall into their laps, and walked away with a D-.

The Chiefs lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Every board in the league had Dixon lower, and that gap is the story. They banked enough surplus on Banks to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 T.J. Parker
In the 11th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick21 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at the 40th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in pick 42 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Pick50 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
They will replay Caleb Banks at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick71 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
No drama and no debate, Malik Muhammad went about where he belonged in slot 71. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
No edge and no loss on Zakee Wheatley in the 74th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick87 Rnd3 Emmett Johnson
They paid sticker price for Emmett Johnson in the 87th overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick109 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
A premium they did not need to pay, Bryce Lance a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at Round 5, Pick 8 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177 Rnd5 Thaddeus Dixon
They went early on Thaddeus Dixon in slot 177, and the value did not follow. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
