Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall

FutureB-
The Chargers won the night they stopped Watts from sliding. Grade: B. Somebody in Round 3, Pick 22 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Xavier Watts, the No. 43 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In slot 22 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick55
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at No. 55 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
Somehow Xavier Watts was still sitting there in pick No. 86, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the 125th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick158
Rnd5
Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater slid further than he should have, and pick 158 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick181
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
Nothing to complain about; Quincy Riley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick199
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
They did well to land Oronde Gadsden II in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick209
Rnd6
Antwane Wells Jr.
They read the board right and Antwane Wells Jr. was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 33. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick214
Rnd6
Woody Marks
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Woody Marks in pick No. 214, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in slot 256 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
