McCord should have been long gone. The Colts pounced, and earned a B-.

Call it larceny. Kyle McCord sat on the board until pick 194, and the Colts did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They will need Powell-Ryland to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver and interior defensive lineman.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In pick No. 14 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
No edge and no loss on Xavier Watts in slot 45; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick94 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Malachi Moore at safety with wide receiver and interior defensive lineman open.
Pick103 Rnd4 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A big swing on Antwaun Powell-Ryland at Round 4, Pick 2, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
The board had cheaper options than Jeffrey Bassa at pick 116, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jay Higgins at No. 152 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick191 Rnd6 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey in the 191st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick194 Rnd6 Kyle McCord
You do not let a quarterback like Kyle McCord reach the 194th pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick234 Rnd7 Clay Webb
Clay Webb in pick No. 234 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
