Best value of the weekend goes to the Colts for Taylor: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Colts were there to profit. Mason Taylor, the No. 98 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 16.
The Colts indulged a want in Hill while a need in wide receiver, quarterback and other spots stayed open. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They are betting Hill proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach pick 45 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick80
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. at the 80th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick115
Rnd4
Tommi Hill
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 14: Tommi Hill adds a cornerback while wide receiver, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick187
Rnd6
TreVeyon Henderson
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at No. 187. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick232
Rnd7
Mason Taylor
Taking Mason Taylor in pick No. 232 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
