Draft Grade — Chargers

FutureB
Helm should have been long gone. The Chargers pounced, and earned a B+. Somebody in pick No. 121 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Gunnar Helm, the No. 89 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They are betting Parr proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Vita Vea gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick53
Rnd2
Dylan Sampson
A conviction pick on Dylan Sampson at slot 53 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick55
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Ezeiruaku. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Jack Bech
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jack Bech in the 86th pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick88
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger in the 88th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick121
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm at pick No. 121 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jared Wilson reach pick 125 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick158
Rnd5
Mello Dotson
Circle this one: Mello Dotson at Round 5, Pick 20 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed slipping to No. 199 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at pick No. 209 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick214
Rnd6
Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks at pick 214 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick256
Rnd7
Logan Parr
They jumped the gun on Logan Parr, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
