Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Chargers for Leonard: B.

Somebody in pick 199 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Riley Leonard, the No. 127 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Kennard to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Omarion Hampton
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a three-down runner at fair value.
Pick36 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
A slide stopped in the 36th overall pick, with Walter Nolen worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick57 Rnd2 Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard at No. 57 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
The board had Terrance Ferguson higher than the 125th pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick158 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
You do not let a cornerback like Cobee Bryant reach pick 158 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at slot 181 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick199 Rnd6 Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in pick No. 199 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick209 Rnd6 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
The board fumbled Jaylen Reed all the way to the 214th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick256 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Good price on Teddye Buchanan in the 256th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
