FutureB
The Chargers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The Chargers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Traeshon Holden at No. 256 regardless, 46 picks early.
Farmer at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In slot 22 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Nic Scourton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nic Scourton at No. 58. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
They paid sticker price for Tez Johnson in pick 97, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
They paid up for Hollin Pierce at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139
Rnd5
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer at the 139th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick158
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
They reached a country mile for Ollie Gordon II at pick No. 158, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at the 181st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick199
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
By-the-book stuff, Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at Round 6, Pick 23 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at pick 209 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick214
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
Nothing to complain about; Donovan Edwards went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick241
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
No edge and no loss on Bilhal Kone in No. 241; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick256
Rnd7
Traeshon Holden
Traeshon Holden in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
