FutureB-
The Cardinals won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. There is reaching, and then there is Aeneas Peebles at the 80th pick. The Cardinals jumped the board by 68 and dared it to prove them wrong.
Getting Starks where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In slot 23 they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick46
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at pick No. 46 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick47
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
A linebacker of that caliber at the 47th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick48
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum in the 48th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick50
Rnd2
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in pick 50 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick51
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer in pick 51 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
Shemar Turner
A big swing on Shemar Turner at No. 54, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick55
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas at slot 55 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick56
Rnd2
Elijah Arroyo
A real head-scratcher, Elijah Arroyo in the 56th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick65
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
No edge and no loss on Carson Schwesinger in Round 3, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick66
Rnd3
Malaki Starks
Taking Malaki Starks in the 66th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick67
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cam Skattebo this early at the Round 3 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick68
Rnd3
Deone Walker
They liked Deone Walker enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 68. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick80
Rnd3
Aeneas Peebles
Aeneas Peebles in pick No. 80 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
