The Cardinals fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cardinals started one anyway for Shaun Dolac, 184 picks ahead of schedule.
Landing Watts that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback and tight end went begging.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In slot 23 they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at the 33rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Value with a capital V on Jalon Walker in the 39th overall pick, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick45
Rnd2
Benjamin Morrison
Good price on Benjamin Morrison in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick59
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They went early on Tate Ratledge in pick No. 59, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick60
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Somehow Emeka Egbuka was still sitting there in No. 60, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in pick No. 74 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick78
Rnd3
Bradyn Swinson
Bradyn Swinson at the 78th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick79
Rnd3
Tai Felton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tai Felton in slot 79, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch in No. 89 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick115
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Denzel Burke adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback and tight end untouched.
Pick116
Rnd4
Xavier Watts
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Watts at Round 4, Pick 14 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick119
Rnd4
Willie Lampkin
They reached a country mile for Willie Lampkin at the 119th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick131
Rnd4
Billy Bowman Jr.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Billy Bowman Jr. in the Round 4 slot leaves quarterback and tight end for later.
Pick137
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A wild overpay on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
Value said wait; Ty Robinson in Round 5, Pick 1 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick144
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kyle Williams at No. 144 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick154
Rnd5
Shaun Dolac
A big swing on Shaun Dolac at pick No. 154, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
