FutureD+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Cardinals a B. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cardinals took Shaun Dolac a full 161 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
The Fairchild value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback and running back went begging.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Shemar Stewart
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a problem off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant in pick 33 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Value with a capital V on Jalon Walker in the 38th pick, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at slot 39 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick44
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
They reached into another round for Wyatt Milum, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick65
Rnd3
Tre Harris
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tre Harris in the 65th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick89
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Darien Porter slid further than he should have, and the 89th pick is lovely value for the cornerback. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick91
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 91 on Denzel Burke with quarterback and running back unsolved.
Pick96
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at pick 96 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103
Rnd4
Savion Williams
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Savion Williams in Round 4, Pick 1. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tez Johnson in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They reached a country mile for Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 139, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick141
Rnd5
Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in slot 141 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick143
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson at the 143rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick145
Rnd5
Dylan Fairchild
You do not let an offensive lineman like Dylan Fairchild reach Round 5, Pick 7 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177
Rnd6
Shaun Dolac
Shaun Dolac at the 177th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
