FutureB-
The Cardinals turned the phones into found money: B. The rest of the league had time to spare on Joe Milton III; the Cardinals did not wait, grabbing him 105 spots ahead at No. 104. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Cardinals indulged a want in Lassiter while a need in interior defensive lineman stayed open.
That Lassiter pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In the Round 1 slot they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick16
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 16 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick18
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In slot 18 they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick19
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick No. 19 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick34
Rnd2
Bo Nix
They took Bo Nix at par in the 34th pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in Round 2, Pick 3 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick38
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A reach for Edgerrin Cooper in the 38th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 45 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick50
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They paid sticker price for Zach Frazier in Round 2, Pick 18, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick52
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at pick 52 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick53
Rnd2
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at slot 53 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dominick Puni. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick71
Rnd3
Renardo Green
A straight-up fair deal on Renardo Green at the 71st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
They reached into another round for Jalen McMillan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick78
Rnd3
Mohamed Kamara
They talked themselves into Mohamed Kamara at the 78th pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick81
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk slid further than he should have, and No. 81 is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Kamari Lassiter
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Kamari Lassiter, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick94
Rnd3
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at Round 3, Pick 31 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104
Rnd4
Joe Milton III
A real head-scratcher, Joe Milton III in pick 104 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick106
Rnd4
Christian Mahogany
The board had Christian Mahogany higher than the 106th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in pick No. 107; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick108
Rnd4
Cam Hart
A curious use of slot 108. Interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a cornerback in Cam Hart did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Calen Bullock
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman to take Calen Bullock, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jacob Cowing
A conviction pick on Jacob Cowing at pick 114 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick115
Rnd4
Malik Mustapha
A want over a need in the 115th overall pick: Malik Mustapha adds a safety while interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Pick117
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaac Guerendo this early at Round 4, Pick 17. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
