Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Panthers to a B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Que Robinson in the 146th overall pick, a good 45 spots before the room expected him.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Pearce Jr.. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 James Pearce Jr.
Taking James Pearce Jr. in Round 2, Pick 2 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jordan Burch
They talked themselves into Jordan Burch at No. 57, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick65 Rnd3 Trey Amos
Trey Amos is a better player than pick No. 65 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Nice patience on Tre Harris, who had no business lasting to pick 74. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
A conviction pick on Jeffrey Bassa at the 111th pick that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick114 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
No edge and no loss on Joshua Farmer in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick140 Rnd5 Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell in pick 140 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146 Rnd5 Que Robinson
Que Robinson at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick163 Rnd5 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at No. 163 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick230 Rnd7 CJ Dippre
The board had cheaper options than CJ Dippre at slot 230, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
