The Buccaneers turned the phones into found money: B. Nobody else had Jamari Lyons anywhere near the 246th pick. The Buccaneers did, by 76 spots, and that gap is the whole story. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Daniels pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while running back went begging. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Denzel Boston
Denzel Boston at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick36
Rnd2
Quincy Rhodes Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Quincy Rhodes Jr. at slot 36, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick44
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
They took Sonny Styles at par in Round 2, Pick 12, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick80
Rnd3
Joe Royer
No edge and no loss on Joe Royer in the 80th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick88
Rnd3
Austin Siereveld
A straight-up fair deal on Austin Siereveld at pick 88, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick105
Rnd4
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
No drama and no debate, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren went about where he belonged in No. 105. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Jaishawn Barham in Round 4, Pick 6 leaves running back for later.
Pick107
Rnd4
Derrick Moore
This one needs a full-page explanation: Derrick Moore in the Round 4 slot, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick116
Rnd4
Akheem Mesidor
They paid a round early for Akheem Mesidor in the 116th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick124
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis in pick 124 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick130
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at slot 130 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick143
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in the 143rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick154
Rnd5
Zane Durant
A real head-scratcher, Zane Durant in No. 154 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick180
Rnd6
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Fair-plus on Jermaine Mathews Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick182
Rnd6
Carson Beck
The board fumbled Carson Beck all the way to slot 182, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick192
Rnd6
CJ Daniels
You do not let a wide receiver like CJ Daniels reach No. 192 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick194
Rnd6
Rasheem Biles
Rasheem Biles in Round 6, Pick 16 is fair value, right on his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick200
Rnd6
Dane Key
A tidy little value on Dane Key in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick221
Rnd7
Barion Brown
They went early on Barion Brown in pick No. 221, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick230
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at the 230th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick235
Rnd7
Pat Coogan
They liked Pat Coogan enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 235. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jamari Lyons
They talked themselves into Jamari Lyons at the 246th pick, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
