Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB+
FutureB-
The Buccaneers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Buccaneers shredded theirs for Eric Gentry. He came off 106 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
On value alone, Allar makes the weekend a net positive. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Buccaneers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Nyck Harbor
A slide stopped in pick 36, with Nyck Harbor worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick46
Rnd2
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at pick No. 46 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick51
Rnd2
Dani Dennis-Sutton
Nothing to complain about; Dani Dennis-Sutton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in the 52nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick72
Rnd3
Mansoor Delane
They took Mansoor Delane at par in the 72nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick83
Rnd3
Zane Durant
They paid up for Zane Durant at the Round 3 slot when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sonny Styles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick102
Rnd3
Tim Keenan III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tim Keenan III. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick114
Rnd4
Cayden Green
Cayden Green at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick124
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 22, where Monroe Freeling graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick128
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 128 with a little surplus value in Oscar Delp. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
They talked themselves into Davison Igbinosun at the 135th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick149
Rnd5
Monroe Mills
A reach on Monroe Mills in slot 149; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick163
Rnd5
Dane Key
They reached a country mile for Dane Key at No. 163, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick177
Rnd6
Barion Brown
This one needs a full-page explanation: Barion Brown in slot 177, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham in Round 6, Pick 20 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick214
Rnd6
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in the 214th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick221
Rnd7
PJ Williams
PJ Williams at pick 221 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick231
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman at the 231st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jordan White
They paid a round early for Jordan White in pick No. 233, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
