FutureB-
The phones sank the Buccaneers this weekend: D. Nobody else had Eric Gentry anywhere near the 215th pick. The Buccaneers did, by 108 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Omosigho pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Allar.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in the 35th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick36
Rnd2
Nyck Harbor
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nyck Harbor at pick No. 36. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick46
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Nice patience on Caleb Banks, who had no business lasting to pick 46. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick52
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Value said wait; Sonny Styles in the 52nd overall pick says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick72
Rnd3
Zane Durant
Zane Durant at Round 3, Pick 8 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick81
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
They liked Caleb Tiernan enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 81. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick97
Rnd3
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at the 97th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick103
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
A wild overpay on Chase Bisontis in No. 103, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Rayshaun Benny
Rayshaun Benny in pick 117 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick124
Rnd4
Samuel Omosigho
A curious use of pick No. 124. Running back needed the pick; a linebacker in Samuel Omosigho did not.
Pick128
Rnd4
Isaiah Nwokobia
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Isaiah Nwokobia at the 128th overall pick is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick129
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
No drama and no debate, Oscar Delp went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 27. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
They reached into another round for Davison Igbinosun, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick153
Rnd5
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick156
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163
Rnd5
Josh Moten
Josh Moten at Round 5, Pick 25 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham in the 177th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick192
Rnd6
Dane Key
Fair-plus on Dane Key, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at pick 195 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick202
Rnd6
Princewill Umanmielen
A big swing on Princewill Umanmielen at the 202nd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick207
Rnd6
PJ Williams
PJ Williams at pick No. 207 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick215
Rnd6
Eric Gentry
They talked themselves into Eric Gentry at No. 215, and the board did not agree. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick227
Rnd7
Riley Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: Riley Williams in slot 227, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick237
Rnd7
Dasan McCullough
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dasan McCullough this early at the 237th pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
